LOVE was in the air when a special concert was held in Southampton on Valentine’s Day to support Delays frontman Greg Gilbert.

Around 150 people enjoyed a night of live music at The Brook, raising £1,500 for the rock star.

Dad-of-two Greg is currently battling stage four bowel cancer and secondary lung cancer, and has been told by surgeons that they cannot help him.

Since Greg was dealt the devastating news, fans across the globe have come together to donate almost £150,000 to help him pay for a potentially lifesaving cancer treatment, not available on the NHS.

The Valentine’s Day concert featured live performances from The Flying Alexanders, Sean McGowan, The Novatones, Dead Rabbits and BirdPen.

Two members of Band of Skulls also DJd on the night.

The Brook's Dylan Clarke said: “We had about 150 people turn up, which is not bad for a cold, wintery Tuesday night - on Valentine’s night too.

“There was a really beautiful mood and lots of love coming from the stage. It was lovely.

“I was really pleased with the money we raised – every little bit helps. I think this has stitched together the music scene in that lots of venues have done something like this.

“We are all in the same game and it is just lovely to see venues come together to support Greg’s cause.”

The event was co-organised by Dylan and Jodie Copeland, a local music producer and Delays fan.

Jodie said: “Valentine’s Day was always going to be a hard night to get people out but it was a great success - £1,500 is an amazing amount of money raised.

"Everyone there had an amazing night - there were lots of storied being shared, friends being made and old faces catching up."

Jodie also managed to raise £200 on the night after securing 250 roses from builders merchant TradePoint to sell in return for donations.

He added that he is looking arrange some more gigs in the next couple of month to support Greg.
