SOUTHAMPTON’S new Radio One stars Pioneers are launching their debut EP at The Joiners on Saturday and are hoping it will create the same buzz as their first single.

Frontman Sam Watts, drummer Charlie Flide, lead guitarist Toby Gathercole and bassist Bailey Sandom have only been together for a few months, but, after being championed by Radio Solent's Steph Newenhouse, their song Take Time made the Radio One playlist as BBC Introducing’s artist of the week.

The upbeat track, which tells the story of a big night out, was spun by DJs Dev, Scott Mills, Greg James and Clara Amfo in October. The band also chatted on air to Alice Levine.

Now the New Forest indie rockers are to debut EP I’m Not Alright, I’m Fine at The Joiners before another gig in London next week. One of the new numbers, It’s On You, has already had an early play on Solent University’s student radio station Sonar.

The lads are big fans of Arctic Monkeys and Alt-J, fronted by Southampton’s Joe Newman, and say they’ve been influenced by The Libertines, Jamie T plus The Sherlocks and Jake Bugg, who are both returning to the south in February.

Pioneers with support from Circus of Five play The Joiners Saturday 2 December. Tickets £5 at joiners.vticket.co.uk
