ANNA and Elizabeth: The Invisible Comes to Us is at Forest Arts Centre, New Milton on Thursday May 3.

The show is a bold and immersive folk music performance, which combines the spectacular voice of Elizabeth LaPerlle with the exciting vision of Anna Roberts-Gevalt, joined by musician, singer and producer Benjamin Lazar Davis.

LaPerlle is renowned for her stunning vocals, and often lauded as the finest traditional singer of her generation and Roberts-Gevalt is a multi-instrumentalist and experimenter whose musical curiosity has taken her from fiddling in Kentucky to the avant-garde community in Brooklyn, New York.

While the performance is primarily a folk concert, the duo integrates captivating visual art and movement as well as experimental film with their breath-taking harmonies. One such component is the use of crankies, which Anna and Elizabeth have become known for.

Crankies are long scrolls of embroidered or illustrated material that are hand cranked to continuously to unfurl and reveal the story of the images.

When combined with the duo’s beautiful arrangements these distinct elements come together to create a show like no other, with story-telling at its heart.

The pair challenges conceptions of how folk music should be performed and enjoyed
