SÓN – Southampton’s professional orchestra – perform Aaron Copland’s famous Appalachian Spring at Turner Sims this Sunday.

Joined by BBC presenter David Owen Norris for Copland Unwrapped, the orchestra explores the music with stories, demonstrations and musical extracts, before performing the whole piece.

The event marks the finale of the orchestra’s third season at Turner Sims, before they bring a summer series of mini-performances to the city-centre’s new John Hansard Gallery as part of the Artist Rooms: Gerhard Richter exhibition.

Són is a versatile newcomer to the UK stage. Made up of some of the country’s finest orchestral, chamber and solo players, they are generating a real buzz amongst concert-goers and the UK’s orchestral community.

Són have established themselves in only a few short months, and are selling out concert halls and developing a dedicated following across the South.

Over two-thirds of the players come from Hampshire and neighbouring counties.
