THE WARM

A WARSASH drummer is reuniting his band The Warm to raise awareness of Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) following the death of his younger sister.

Rebecca Hayward was just 28 when her friend found her unconscious in bed at the flat they shared in Ocean Village, Southampton, in June.

The keen music-lover, who had lived with epilepsy since the age of 12, had died suddenly, leaving her family devastated.

Now, Boyd, a professional drum teacher, who credits his sister with inspiring him to take a musical path, is reforming The Warm – which has supported successful UK acts such as Snow Patrol and Scouting for Girls.

The group will play some of their best known songs – including a couple of Rebecca’s favourites at The Ranch recording studio in Nursling, Southampton, tomorrow. They will perform three sessions, the first of which will start at 2pm.

THE BIG TEN INCH

THE Big Ten Inch is coming to town!

Known as the best vintage / rock n roll night in London, it’s coming to Southampton’s Cellar for the first time tomorrow night.

Expect an education in jumpin’ 40s and 50s rhythm & blues, hopping harlem swing, stomping gospel, skiffle, ska and black rock ’n’ roll.

On the bill at the launch night is 70 year-old Bristolian scene grandaddy DJ Derekwho has been delighting dancefloors since the 1960s with his trademark dancehall mix-ups.

He delves into the sounds that shaped him as a young man, when US Forces Radio blared out the sounds of Lavern Baker and Ray Charles.

Also live onstage, will be Derriere (fronted by the amazing Miss Sarah Tonin) performing raunchy rhythm n blues, with echoes of Cotton Club swing and 60s soul thrown into the mix.

The Count will spin an eclectic array of original 45s and 78s, taking in old-timebee bop, rockabilly, cumbia, calypso, ska and dirty jazz.

AZIZ ABRAHIM

AZIZ Ibrahim might be best known as the former guitarist (post-John Squire) for The Stone Roses and Ian Brown (solo), but he hides a history of studio and live work with a diverse roster of artists – ranging from Paul Weller, The Players, to Simply Red, Steven Wilson and Asia, among many others.

But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Drawing equally on his Pakistani/British heritage and performing in a duo alongside tabla player Dalbir Singh Rattan, the Mancunian guitarist gives free rein to an incredibly broad mix of influences that he blends into what he calls The Asian Blues.

His live shows are known for their incredible musical journeys and infectious creativity.

Aziz appears at Ashcroft Arts Centre in Fareham tonight.
