KAYHAN KALHOR

A VIRTUOSO of the Persian-spiked fiddle called the kamancheh, Kayhan Kalhor is a three-time Grammy nominee widely considered to be the greatest living ambassador of Iranian music. Born into an Iranian Kurdish family, he’s performed internationally as a founding member of Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble and given solo recitals at Carnegie Hall.

Kalhor returns from Tehran with the shah kaman, a new, custom-built kamancheh with sympathetic strings, joining forces with Ali Bahrami Fard, a master of the bass santour (a hammered dulcimer with 96 strings).

They perform music from 2012’s World Village release I Will Not Stand Alone, a haunting meditation.

  • This concert is at Turner Sims tonight.
