IT was a sell-out that promises to whet the musical appetites of the young and old of Hampshire.

On a day that looked set for torrential rain and thunderstorms, it could easily have been a washout, but instead the Alresford Music Festival, near Winchester, saw more than 2,000 people gather for a taste of what the county’s musical talent, and beyond, can deliver.

Featuring artists such as The Earthlights Boogie Band, BOMBS, Tori Reed and Southampton’s The Hattie Jacques’ Playlist, the arena at Arlebury Park was full of picnicking friends and families basking in the sunshine.

There were areas specifically designed to entertain children, with dance workshops, football skills from Alresford Town Youth and even zorbing.

Saturday’s festival boasted four stages, including an indoor acoustic arena and stalls from local businesses.

Last year’s event raised £10,000 for local charities, and one of the organisers, Tim Miller, said they were hoping to beat that target.

He said: “The idea is to appeal to people of all ages and demographics. We have folk singers, indie bands, and then later on party bands.

“It costs £30,000 to put on, but any profit we make is then donated to charity. We sold 2,000 tickets in advance, and 200 camping tickets.”
