SOUTHAMPTON songstress Charlie Macaulay was bowled over when Sex Bomb singer Tom Jones made a special request to meet her at the Osborne summer concerts.

Charlie supported the music legend last week when they played a packed out gig in the grounds of Queen Victoria’s Isle of Wight home.

After leaving the stage to rapturous applause Charlie was pulled aside for the surprise rendezvous with Sir Tom.

She told the Daily Echo: We just came off stage and my guy – the concert organiser John Giddings said to me: “Just wait there Charlie there is someone who wants to meet you. I thought to myself it must be an agent but then I looked round and Tom Jones was there! I thought ‘what the hell!’

"I just said ‘hello’: I was so nervous! I said ‘Nice to meet you and I like your jacket! “she laughed.

“He said ‘You were amazing – you did really well. And he wished me all the best for the future. I was very humbled.

John Giddings also said well done to me and said it’s the best show I have ever done – it was so amazing!

“The target audience was perfect for my music. I really hope that I will be able to work with him in the future. His voice is absolutely amazing – he is awesome!

His manager said to me that Tom doesn’t normally ask to meet support acts so I was very honoured.”

The 20-year-old is no stranger to the big stage, having supported the likes of Anastacia, Will Young, Simply Red and Ruby Turner and performed at Glastonbury, Bestival and Isle of Wight festivals.

But she said the Osborne Summer Concerts was her biggest and best show ever.

The former Live and Unsigned winner was able to showcase tunes from her debut album All I know, which was released late last year.

She said: “It was my biggest crowd and they were absolutely amazing. I had my whole ten-piece band there and it was such a great feeling.”

The Tom Jones concert was all the sweeter because Charlie had been booked to support him at Osborne house two years ago but the concert was cancelled after Tom fell ill.

She was also thrilled that she was able to invite 100 friends and family along to watch her too!

Now she is very excited about the future.

“A guy has given me a lot of money to write and record music for the next two years so I am just going to spend time experimenting with my music – whilst playing a few small gigs, and see where it all goes.
