SCOTT’S strictly our man!

That was the message of support from students at Crestwood College who will be voting to keep Hampshire’s Scott Mills on the Strictly Come Dancing dance floor for another week.

Currently at the bottom of the leaderboard after his Latin debut last week, the Radio 1 DJ needs all the help he can get if he is to avoid a dance disaster and be the first to be booted off in the dreaded dance-off.

Pupils at his former school in Eastleigh are leading the support for the 40-year-old, who is inspiring many of them to give dance a try.

The school, in Shakespeare Road, only introduced dance classes last month and head teacher Krista Dawkins is thrilled that an expupil is proving to be the perfect role model for those who might not normally be inclined to take to the dance floor.

She said: “It’s absolutely phenomenal that we have a former student on a major show like Strictly.

“We want him to do well because we are trying to encourage more boys to dance, and Scott does form a really positive role model for the students.

“I don’t think he is necessarily a natural dancer but what it is teaching the children is that you have to have a go, put yourself out there and take a risk.

“If he wants to come and practise with us, I’m sure we can find him some sequins.”

Last Friday Scott performed a cha cha cha to Rock DJ by Robbie Williams, but despite giving it his all, he found himself with the lowest score from the judges. Cheering him on from her sofa was Year 7 pupil Libby Smith, who thought that the score was unfair.

She said: “He was really good. The judges were being a little bit harsh but there are some improvements he can make. My message to him would be to carry on going, don’t let anything put you down and keep enjoying it.

“Having him on the show proves anybody from here can achieve whatever they want to.”

With the tango up next tomorrow night, Scott and dance partner Joanne Clifton are determined that the only way is up.

Saturdays singer Frankie Bridge, the wife of former Saints star Wayne Bridge, is also a contender on this year’s Strictly.

Her dance partner is Kevin Clifton, Joanne’s older brother.
