AN up-and-coming pianist will join the Philiharmonia Orchestra as it takes to the stage in Basingstoke.

Martin Helmchen will perform with the orchestra, conducted by Paavo Järvi, at The Anvil on Thursday April 9.

The concert begins with one of Haydn’s best-known works, Symphony no 88 – a mature work with playful fast movements and a solemn and expressive largo.

This is followed by Beethoven’s last piano concerto, the powerful Piano Concerto no 5 (Emperor), with Nielsen’s Symphony no 4 (The Inextinguishable) completing the evening.

Tickets for the Philharmonia Orchestra, at 7.45pm on April 9, cost £13-£39 and under-16s and students pay £10.
