The 34-year-old multi-platinum recording artist and DJ, who grew up on the Holyrood estate will be leaving his Miami home to play the festival at Robin Hill Country Park, Isle Of Wight on September 13.

The recording star last performed in Southampton in 2013 when he played the city's Guildhall.

Craig David rose to fame in 1999 when he featured on the single Re-Rewind by Artful Dodger.

His debut album, Born to Do It, was released in 2000, followed by five more studio albums, and he worked with a variety of artists such as Tinchy Stryder, Kano, Jay Sean, Rita Ora and Sting.

David’s first single, Fill Me In, topped the UK chart and was the first of a string of four Top 10 singles from his debut album which eventually sold more than eight million copies worldwide, earning multi-platinum status in more than 20 countries.

The singer-songwriter was nominated for no fewer than 12 Brit Awards – three times for Best British Male – and twice received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.

He was working towards an engineering degree at Southampton City College when music success changed his plans completely.

Craig will present a 90-minute DJ set at Bestival with his live vocal throughout known as TS5.

TS5 started out as the most exclusive pre-party in Miami hosted by Craig at his penthouse home, Tower Suite 5.

His sets combine massive old skool anthems from R&B to Swing beat, and from Garage to Bashment, into current chart topping House hits.

And with Craig’s ability to sing, MC and work the crowd while DJing simultaneously, TS5 has its USP.

Bestival organisers have announced that the Shy FX’s Party on the Moon Bollywood takeover – which will be the tent’s closing party on Sunday, September 13, will feature sets from both Craig and Mark Ronson.

Bestival runs at Robin Hill Country Park in the Isle Of Wight from September 10-13. Missy Elliott, Duran Duran and The Chemical Brothers will headline this year.

Craig was last in Southampton in October 2013 when a plaque was unveiled in his honour by Southampton Itchen MP John Denham at The Cellar to mark the city's Black History Month celebrations.

He was happy to pose for pictures and sign autographs to a wealth of star-struck fans.

The former Bellemoor School pupil told Daily Echo online: “It's an honour to have a plaque put up in my name.

"It's about showing the youth in Southampton that people can be successful if they have dreams and aspirations.

"If you work hard you can achieve anything.”
