BOURNEMOUTH Symphony Orchestra has announced details of its new season with chief conductor Kirill Karabits at the forefront.

The 2016/17 season will see stunning orchestral performances in Poole, Bournemouth and across the South and South West.

The orchestra’s chief executive, Dougie Scarfe, praised the orchestra’s musicians and its top conductor.

Mr Scarfe said: “Kirill Karabits, our chief conductor, this season leads 22 concerts underpinning our residencies across the South and South West. As well as a stellar list of soloists joining us throughout the new season, I’m delighted to welcome James Feddeck and Antonio Méndez making their BSO debuts, as well as welcoming back a host of great conductors continuing their relationship with us.”

He said the new season would see new musicians alongside those the orchestra had known for years.

He added: “An array of masterful mid-century symphonies and works by the great Edward Elgar and his contemporaries form two important strands in this season’s programme and following in Grammy-winning Augustin Hadelich’s footsteps, we’re delighted to welcome Serbian violinist Nemanja Radulovic as our new Artist-in-Residence.”

For the opening concert at the Lighthouse in Poole on October 12, Karabits conducts the rarer second of Walton’s Symphonies alongside Tchaikovsky’s Capriccio Italien and is joined by pianist Francesco Piemontesi for Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini.

Kirill Karabits, chief conductor, said: “I’m delighted to be conducting such a wide-ranging repertoire for this, my eighth season with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. British music plays an important role, with Walton’s two dynamic Symphonies opening the season and then a focus on Elgar’s orchestral music in context of his Romantic counterparts.”

The orchestra’s new artist in residence, charismatic Serbian violinist Nemanja Radulovi? will also be giving three programmes.

He is later joined by stellar line-up of internationally-acclaimed soloists and conductor debuts throughout the new season.

Other highlights include a spotlight on Elgar in four concerts exploring the composer’s place in the European Romantic tradition.
