IF you can remember the Sixties…… you can remember The Pretty Things!

And now 54 years after they first formed the band are to play in Havant!

The band, featuring original member Phil May and ex-Rolling Stones guitarist Dick Taylor, will be heading to The Spring Arts and Heritage Centre on Saturday March 4 bringing "a blast from the past that’s just as dangerous and powerful today".

Tracks like Don’t Bring Me Down, Midnight to Six Man and S. F. Sorrow is Born will bring back memories of the time when The Pretty Things first burst on the scene at the start of the British rock’n’roll explosion.

The Pretty Things were responsible for the world’s first rock opera, S. F. Sorrow, which was recorded at Abbey Road studios alongside the Beatles and Pink Floyd. Released in 1968, the album was a song-cycle based on a short story by Phil May, that told the story of the main character S. F. Sorrow from birth through love, war, tragedy, madness and the disillusionment of old age.

The Pretty Things got their name from the song Pretty Thing by Willie Dixon, released in 1955 and originally recorded by Bo Diddley. The band included a cover of the song on their debut album of 1965. Since their early days as a rhythm and blues band they have embraced other genres such as psychedelic rock in the late 1960s, hard rock in the early 1970s and new wave in the early 1980s.

Seated and standing tickets are available at £25 from the Spring’s Box Office and website, www.thespring.co.uk, or call 023 9247 2700.
