Southampton's own singing sensation and superstar DJ Craig David has announced a hometown gig this summer.

He will appear at The Ageas Bowl, the home of Hampshire Cricket, in West End on Friday September 1 in his biggest ever Hampshire show.

The 35-year-old, who is in the running for Best Male Artist at this weekend's BRIT Awards, told the Daily Echo: "Everyone has been asking when I'm playing Southampton and I can finally tell you I'm going to be here!

"There's just something about being back in Southampton that makes me smile.

"This is where it all started for me and to be back here at this iconic venue playing my own show to 15,000 is just incredible.

"It's never something I take for granted. I have so many friends here and my Mum has her eye on one of those boxes upstairs!

"I excel when you put me on a big stage. TS5 didn't start in Miami, it started in my bedroom in Southampton.

"All my music is a Southampton thing. It still feels like home and it's always a homecoming for me.

"I'm going to smash this one out of the park. It will be epic!"

Fans can expect to hear all the classics plus songs from his latest smash hit album Following My Intuition.

The star, who grew up on Southampton's Holyrood estate and attended Bellemoor School, will treat his home crowd to some of his biggest hits including Walking Away, Fill Me In and 7 Days as well as new material.

Craig's comeback saw him record a number one album and appear at Glastonbury last year.

The September concert will follow an 18-date sold out tour in March and April and a ten week residency with his TS5 Pool Party at Ibiza Rocks Hotel.

It has been 16 years since the critically acclaimed Born To Do It changed his life, catapulting him to international stardom.

Pre sale tickets for the Ageas Bowl date will be available on Wednesday with general sale getting under way at 10am on Friday.
