TOP British jazz trumpeter Steve Waterman will be joining forces with The Young Musician of The Year Alexandra Ridout for the latest Southampton Jazz Club gig tomorrow night.

Alexandra was crowned the winner of the BBC Young Musician Jazz Award 2016 at the age of 17.

She will be sharing the bill at the club’s Talking Heads base with The Steve Waterman Sextet.

Alexandra has been playing the trumpet since she was nine and before this she learned classical guitar, recorder and piano.

At the age of 14 she gained a place on classical trumpet scholarship at the Junior Department of The Royal Academy of Music.

A year later she also gained a place on the Junior Jazz course at The Royal Academy of Music.

Winning the BBC Young Musician Jazz Award opened the floodgates for a series of high profile radio and concert appearances including with Dave Holland and the NYJC flagship band at the Houses of Commons. She also performed at the Pizza Express Soho and led her own band The Alexandra Ridout Quintet.

Steve Waterman is one of the top British jazz trumpet players both at home and the international scene.

He began his career while studying at Trinity College Of Music, and since then has worked regularly on the British and European jazz scene. And has recorded many critically acclaimed CDs under his own name.

Steve has toured Europe playing at many of the major jazz festivals with the Carla Bley Big Band and recorded two CDs for the ECM label.As a composer Steve has had a number of commissions ranging from small group to big band.
