ON Thursday ( October 26) Turner Sims’ Associate Artists the Vienna Piano Trio launch their 2017-18 series with music by Beethoven which established his reputation as a composer at the age of 25. Praised by Haydn, the three trios which form Op 1 were among Beethoven’s most popular works during his lifetime. Wolfgang Rihm’s three ‘essays’ for piano trio – of which the Trio play the first – have similarly become classics of new chamber music since their premiere in the early 1980s. Schumann’s first piano trio concludes the concert. Dedicated to his wife Clara, she described it as ‘full of youthful energy’.
