AUSTRALIAN indie stars DMA’S have announced three new dates next month and they are coming back to the south.

Days before they support Liam Gallagher in London, frontman Tommy O’Dell and guitarists Matt Mason and Johnny Took are returning to Southampton to play Engine Rooms on Monday June 25.

The show is being promoted by The Joiners, the venue where the band played their first show here less than three years ago.

DMA’S also play The Phoenix in Exeter on Tuesday June 26 and Sub 89 in Reading on Wednesday June 27. Tickets are on sale from 10am Wednesday 23 May for all three gigs.

The trio from Newtown, Sydney, who say they built their original sound on foundations laid by bands like Oasis and The Stone Roses, gained a huge following in the UK after the release of their album Hills End in 2016.

The record, which features singles Timeless, Lay Down and Too Soon, plus the optimistic beats of Melbourne and the hopeful despair of single Delete, was one reason why they sold out The 1865 on Brunswick Square, Southampton last summer.

Now armed with For Now, their uplifting new album, and some big summer festival appearances ahead, including Reading and Leeds, the band are set to take things to a new level.

“Last time round, we were still working out what kind of band we want to be, and we still are,” admits Johnny.

“We still have that jangly rock ‘n’ roll aspect to it, but it’s also matured in other ways. It feels like a natural progression for us.”

New single In The Air has sweeping production, and daydream-inducing lyrics that shine a light on the lads’ talent for indie-pop writing.

Four days after their date in Southampton, the band will join Wolf Alice, The Sherlocks, who play the Common People main stage on Saturday, and rising Welsh trio Trampolene to support Liam Gallagher at the former Oasis lead singer’s biggest ever solo show at Finsbury Park in London.

Last year, local indie stars Cassava, who have just released a new single called Lost In The Moment and sold out The Joiners in January, supported DMA’S at The 1865.

DMA’S play Engine Rooms, Southampton on Monday June 25, then The Phoenix, Exeter on Tuesday June 26 and Sub 89, Reading on Wednesday 27 June. Tickets for all three shows are on sale 10am this morning at dmasdmas.com.
