VACCINES front man Justin Young always dreamed of playing at St Mary's as a youngster.

But he will be playing in his band - not as a footballer, when he opens for the Rolling Stones tomorrow.

Thrilled to be returning to home territory for the legendary show he told The Daily Echo: " It's amazing! We played with them in the summer of 2013 in Hyde Park which is a legendary venue but playing in Southampton is particularly exciting. To play with the Rolling Stones in a football stadium and in the one that I grew up in watching football every weekend is so special - and with my family living just ten miles down the road too!"

Justin was born in Southampton and went to school at St Edwards. He admits he is not a Saints fan but explains "My dad and brother are fans so I would go and cheer them on. I used to go to the Dell and then went to St Mary's for a couple of seasons. I can picture it now. It was my secret dream to play there as a footballer but to be playing there as a band with our music is one step better- it's a good feeling!"

But Justin says it will be a short but sweet visit to the city: "I get back to Southampton about twice a year but can't remember the last time I was in the city centre. We are coming in for the show from Germany and the next day we fly to Mexico for a show so we will only be there for 24 hours- just enough time to warm up the show and watch the Stones and then Get the Hell out of Dodge'!

Receiving the invitation to open for the Stones has been a real thrill. In fact, Justin is such a big fan he named a song on the new album after the group: "Our agent emailed us to tell us about this gig. One of the best things about being in a band is you wake up and you never know what's going to happen each given day and so you look forward to those kind of emails!"

This boost comes after a turbulent time for the band but all looks really positive: "We have two new members and we are five piece now and we've never been better. It's exciting to see the world again - there's definitely a new energy; the spark has been reignited.

I think if you do anything for too long you can get complacent. It's difficult to be inspired when you've been doing things for a while.

You can't ever take things for granted. Our first single was seven years ago but we've been together eight or nine years. The Rolling Stones have endured like no other.

"I couldn't be happier. I'm very excited about this chapter in our lives."

In addition to fan favourites the show will include songs from The Vaccines' new album Combat Sports.
