THE first date on the 2012 itinerary of legendary British singer Elkie Brooks will be The Concorde tonight.
The 66-year-old, pictured, who has celebrated more than 50 years in the business, has become one of the most successful and respected singing talents in the UK.
She has produced 19 studio albums, and scooped numerous awards and accolades.
Her career started as a 15-year-old with a passion for the blues and jazz.
Signing to the Decca label, Elkie released her first single Something’s Got A Hold On Me in 1964 before a stint touring with The Animals and The Beatles.
In 1970, her career took on a new direction after meeting guitarist Pete Gage and together they formed rock fusion band, Dada.
But the Pearl’s A Singer single was the real turning point, becoming an instant anthem.
Other hit singles included Sunshine After The Rain.
Lilac Wine and the evergreen classic Don’t Cry Out Loud.

Soprano Susan Gritton joins the orchestra to sing Vilja from The Merry Widow, the Czardas from Die Fledermaus and other popular arias.
Susan is a Grammy nominated artist; her recent recording of Les Illuminations has been widely acclaimed. Winner of the 1994 Kathleen Ferrier Award, she is one of the most accomplished lyric sopranos of her generation.
