HAROLD Arlen wrote some of the greatest hits from the 30s and 40’s, including the entire score to the classic movie, The Wizard of Oz.
His production line of classics included Over the Rainbow, Get Happy, Stormy Weather, It’s Only A Paper Moon and I’ve Got the World on a String.
Star Italian pianist Andrea Pozza and legendary Scottish born tenor saxophonist Bobby Wellins will be opening the pages of The Harold Arlen Songbook when they headline an international jazz night at The Concorde Club, Eastleigh, tonight.
They will be joined by two other top musicians, Andy Cleyndert on double bass and British drummer Mark Taylor.
Bobby, who is 75, is still going strong on the concert circuit and is described as the musician’s musician.
He was best known for his collaboration with great British jazz pianist Stan Tracey on the seminal British jazz album Under Milk Wood. He continues to demonstrate his peerless talents as one of the most inventive and creative masters of the saxophone.
Andrea has been an important figure in the world of jazz for more than 20 years.
He has appeared on stage with legendary musicians such as Harry ‘Sweets’ Edison, Chet Baker, Al Grey, George Coleman and Lee Konitz.
