MEMBERS of Havant Symphony Orchestra (HSO) will be wished a very Happy 50th Birthday with a specially composed piece at Ferneham Hall this weekend.
The orchestra’s sister band, Havant Chamber Orchestra, will premiere Truffaldino, a ballet for Chamber Orchestra, which was composed by former member Simon Willis.
The orchestra was formed in 1962 by its conductor Peter Craddock when he was the head of music at Havant Grammar School, teaching dozens of pupils including Simon to play the trombone.
Simon became a member of HSO for six years but lost touch until 18 months ago when the impending 50th anniversary was looming and current members were seeking old friends.
They discovered he is now an internationally known and successful composer who decided to write the piece of music in celebration of five decades of success.
Tomorrow night’s concert continues the anniversary season, which ends in July.
