Saints players and staff offered free tickets to Bestival

THE man behind Bestival has offered players and staff at Southampton Football Club free tickets to the four-day music festival, if they can clinch promotion.

Radio One DJ, Rob da Bank, has handed the squad the added incentive, ahead of their promotion push in the nPower Championship.

As if the promise of Premier League football wasn’t enough, Rob, real name Robert John Gorham, sent out a message on social networking site, Twitter, yesterday, saying: “Free tickets for Bestival to Saints FC squad if we get promoted this season!”

Saints fan, Rob, 37, later said the offer of tickets, worth £170 each, was open to “staff, players, cleaners, the coach driver, the mascot!”

He told the Daily Echo: “I’d be happy to welcome them all down to Bestival. I’d even lay on an open top bus to take the players down to the camp site!

“I feel slightly foolish, because I know this isn’t exactly going to make them play any better, but I thought it would be a good way to show my support.”

The offer comes after the Daily Echo revealed the latest bands to join this year’s line up, yesterday.

New Order have been revealed as the latest headline act, with Friendly Fires and Death in Vegas also added to the bill. This year’s Bestival takes place from September 6 to September 9.

The staff - YES
The players - they already get paid an absolute fortune to run around ruining the grass
give the tickets to those who cannot afford them : mascots and their families for example

Good on you Robert D'Banque. Hopefully we'll be at home to Liverpool that weekend, but I admire the effort.

England will kick off their Wrold Cup 2014 campaign that weekend against Moldova - it's penciled in for the friday, so presumably will be an evening kick off...

Either way, I've ordered my Bestival ticket on their very handy payment plan, which is much more managable than a one off lump going out of the door.

Three cheers for RdB :-)

That's nice, although I would sell my wife (again and this time for keeps) for tickets to see The Boss at the IOW festival

I grew up with Rob. He's always been a Saints Fan. Hopefully this will motivate the team to go up.

Man, I interviewed Rob once and all we talked about was commercially inviable pop music and Radio One. I had no idea he was a Saints fan! He's a top bloke anyway and this year's Bestival looks immense. Well done everyone.
