TWO American jazz stars – including the son of a Hollywood icon – touch down at The Concorde, Eastleigh next week.

Kyle Eastwood returns with his smooth jazz super group on May 8 and the following night superstar Houston Person, the master of the tenor saxophone, headlines the club’s international jazz night.

The eldest son of actor Clint Eastwood, Kyle was destined to become a jazz musician.

He grew up in Carmel, California where his Pa was its most famous mayor.

Jazz was never far away in the Eastwood household. It became the soundtrack of his childhood years.

While getting to grips with his homework young Kyle remembers the sounds of Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Miles Davies drifting through the house.

Kyle’s first memory of playing music was when Clint taught him to play the left hand bass line of Boogie Woogie while he played the right hand solo over the top.

Playing upright, acoustic and double bass and bass guitar, Kyle regularly tours Europe with his band.

He has worked on a number of his father’s films including Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby, Flags of Our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima.

Houston Person, who is also making a Concorde return, first became known for a series of albums for Prestige Records in the sixties.

He spent many years with singer Etta Jones as her musical partner.

He has recorded more than 75 albums.

n IN A career spanning four decades, legendary jazz drummer and composer Jeff Williams’ musical associates have included Stan Getz, Lee Konitz, Dave Liebman and Lookout Farm, Joe Lovano, Paul Bley, Bill McHenry, Ethan Iverson, Tony Malaby, and many more.

In New York Jeff performs regularly with his quartet, featuring Duane Eubanks, John O’Gallagher and John Hébert.

On Tuesday, he performs music from his new recording Another Time at the Turner Sims.
