THE Southampton venue of a largely forgotten ’70s gig by reggae legends Bob Marley and the Wailers will launch another special concert this week.
The Fleming Arms in Swaythling, once the Coach House club, will be filled with a host of musicians tomorrow as a tribute to the global cultural icons is announced.
Catch a Fire – A Tribute to Bob Marley and the Wailers by Jazz Jamaica All Stars & Urban Soul Orchestra featuring Brinsley Forde will take place at Southampton Guildhall on Friday October 12, as part of the city’s Black History Month.
A plaque commemorating Marley’s Southampton gig in May 1973 before the Jamaican band members became global superstars, will also be reinstated following a recent refurbishment.
Nearly 30 years on, the tribute concert will revisit Marley’s seminal album, upscaling it for an extended Jazz Jamaica All Stars big band at Southampton Guildhall this October.
The Catch a Fire – A Tribute to Bob Marley and the Wailers concert is part of the Lively Up! Festival produced by Dune Music to mark 50 years of Jamaican independence and is presented by Turner Sims as part of Southampton’s Black History Month.
