There’s a few things you need to know the Alabama 3.

Firstly, they aren’t from Alabama.

Secondly, there aren’t three of them.

Thirdly, they play a unique blend of music, once best described by the band themselves as country acid house.

If any of the above trouble you, then you are not likely to enjoy one of their live shows.

But if all that sounds acceptable then you are the sort of person who will soon rate them as one of the best live acts in the country.

The Brixton based band may have been at this a long time, and some of them have grown into theirs 50s in the process, but their latest bi-annual visit to the Brook was, as ever, sold out as they showed no signs of slowing down.

Alabama 3’s set list this time round included plenty of new material, along with some old classics, many of which were reworked.

They also delved into their back catalogue for seldom heard songs like Old Purple Tin and Power In The Blood.

Their most iconic anthem remains Woke Up This Morning, which was used as the theme song for The Sopranos, before they delighted the crowd by rounding off an hour and 40 minutes of high tempo numbers with Too Sick To Pray.

There are no doubt plenty more trips to the Brook left in them yet.
