AMERICAN indie-rock stars We Are Scientists put their foot on the gas for a super night of music at Southampton’s The Engine Rooms.

The Brooklyn based band were back in the city for the first time in eight years and only a day after finishing a hectic European tour with Northern Irish rockers Ash.

Lead-singer-guitarist Keith Murray, bassist and vocalist Chris Cain and drummer Keith Carne sped through their first 16 songs. Cash Cow was first before other favourites such as It’s a Hit and The Great Escape followed.

Frontman Keith fearlessly crowd surfed across the front of the audience during Nobody Move, Nobody gets Hurt. He scrambled back onto the stage for next song In My Head.

While the music was as great as ever the time between songs was equally as fun with Keith and Chris bouncing jokes off each other and sharing their surreal sense of humour with the crowd.

Chris even managed to take the edge off a disappointing League Cup result for The Saints earlier in the evening with some light-hearted joshing with fans in the audience. Few bands are more entertaining than this one.

The official set finished with the band’s biggest UK hit, After Hours before the entertaining trio returned for a tremendous three song encore including Inaction and Slow Down.

But the end of the music wasn’t the end of the evening. Within minutes of finishing on stage Keith, Chris and Keith were outside on West Quay Road laughing and joking with fans and stopping for pictures.

Earlier, up and coming Manchester band Man Made, fronted by singer-guitarist Nile Marr, son of Johnny, with bassist Scott Strange and drummer Callum Rogers, jump-started the night with some great tunes including latest single Bring Some, which has already been championed by Huw Stephens on Radio One.

We Are Scientist are set to tour extensively around the UK in 2016 to coincide with the release of their sixth studio album next year.
