It opened with guts, venom, angst and aggression, pulling on raw emotion as their heavy yet hypnotic beats and bass riffs tore violently through the air.

The lights went out at O2 Guildhall Southampton as Royal Blood began their set with Where Are You Now before moving on to Lights Out.

The crowd went wild as heads moved, bopped and banged along to the band’s first song to be released from their upcoming album How Did We Get So Dark?

The Brighton based two-piece oozed charisma and high-octane energy as they performed in front of a series of vertical standing lighting tubes, creating a series of brilliantly choreographed effects.

Mike Kerr strutted his stuff in a leopard print shirt and tight fitting jeans whilst plucking powerfully on his four-string Fender bass. He screamed soulfully into the microphone as his crystal clear vocals rang around the hall.

Ben Thatcher was sitting up on his trademark pedestal, bashing vigorously on his drum skins with all the ferocity of a demonic grizzly bear protecting it's cub. Wearing his signature peaked cap, his raw stamina and strength was a spectacle to behold.

However, their staggering raw power didn’t come from either of the two individually, but from the obvious chemistry of the pair.

Banging out classics such as Come on Over, Figure it Out and Ten Tonne Skeleton, the work rate of the duo never waned or faltered - it was a relentless barrage of well orchestrated noise.

Joining Royal Blood on their journey from Brighton was their support band Black Honey - a four piece fronted by vocalist and guitarist Izzy Baxter.

Their gentle and catchy, yet often simple melodies were interlaced with briefly heavier moments of frantic guitar playing.

They performed their most popular songs Corrine and Madonna with gusto, which went down well with those familiar with their material.
