Vampire Weekend – Contra

11:34am Friday 15th January 2010

Vampire Weekend return with their second album, Contra, with which they hope to build on the critical acclaim they received for 2008’s self-titled debut LP.

They were almost hidden by the MGMT-sized shadow that took over the music world but by beating them to the release of a second album they may finally get their own place in the sun to shine.

However, at times it’s hard to establish whether the band themselves wrote this album, or if it has been contrived by a boffin from Nintendo reminiscing over his favourite 1980s arcade games with a giant synthesiser.

The happy-go-lucky riffs and electro pops combine to give a fluffy feel to the music and frothy lyrics add to the propaganda-esque happy feelings being forced in to your mind.

The LP lasts for just about a half hour but this may be long enough. Anymore of this sickly sweet product may produce vomit.
