It’s now twenty years since a group of psychedelic mysterious strangers first slipped out of speakers delivering their dark and dingy messages to the world.
Not this group exactly. For the band are now on their fourteenth guitarist and ninth bassist. Makes the Sugababes look everlasting doesn’t it?
Who Killed Sgt. Pepper is the twelfth studio LP from the band and their first in two years. It has been streamed free via the internet and their MySpace page for a while now but this week is its official release date.
It mixes electro with indie, a sprinkle of dance here and there and some pop samples thrown in for good measure.
The result is a mish mash of riffs and explosions which could be just a kid screwing round with a mixing board in your local musical instrument outlet.
But it all works. It all comes together somehow and I think the mystique is the glue. You never know what the next track is going to sound like and it keeps you listening, keeps you interested.
Highlights include Our Time and This Is The One Thing We Did Not Want To Happen while final track Fett Tipped Pictures Of UFOs features some interesting soundbites from The Beatles.
