It was just over two years ago that I first saw The Script when a few hundred fans packed out the Pyramids in Portsmouth just as their hit self titled album was breaking into the charts.
At the BIC the band performed with same energy and enthusiasm as they did back then.
By the end of the first half it was the first album material that did seem to have the edge, maybe because it was more familiar or maybe because it is just better.
Having said that sometimes it takes a live set to bring a record to life, and that happened for me with Science and Faith. The title track sounded tremendous while Nothing also had the crowd jumping.
However, there was no mistaking the standing ovation The Man Who Can't Be Moved received cementing it as a firm favourite, while for me the acoustic version of I’m Yours strummed in the corner of the stage that briefly turned into a front room complete with sofa and lampshade was just gorgeous.
It was the encore including Breakeven and recent hit For the First Time that will live long in the memory though as it ended the gig on a real high.
And it wasn’t just the crowd who enjoyed themselves, in their post gig Tweet The Script described it as “an amazing gig”. They certainly looked like they were enjoying themselves in front of the 6,500 strong crowd.
