Jessie J, BIC

RECORD company bosses knew exactly what they were doing when they signed a teenage Jessie J five years ago.

With massive talent and attitude to match they clearly saw a megastar in the making.

Instead of hurling her head first into the lion's den that is the fickle pop world, Jessie stayed in the background perfecting her breath-taking voice and songwriting skills.

And it was November 2010 when she was unleashed to an unsuspecting public.

The result?

More awards than many so-called stars dream of winning in a lifetime, a huge fan base and probably one of the most fantastic debut tours seen in this country for a long time.

On Sunday night the Heartbeat tour reached the Bournemouth International Centre, where fans had been queueing for hours to get a good spot.

Strutting around the stage in a see-through body stocking, 23-year-old Jessie had the confidence and manner of a star who's been performing in front of huge audiences for years.

The stunning outfit, plush red set and fireworks all added to the show but it was her huge voice that put it into a different league.

She opened on a quiet note with Big White Room but was soon belting out hits including Who's Laughing Now?, Price Tag and the debut single that propelled her to stardom, Do It Like A Dude.

Jessie oozes star quality but still took the time to invite three fans on to the stage for a boogie, hand out some heart-shaped red balloons and tell the audience who'd gone out of the X Factor - it was her fault we'd missed the results after all.

And she proved there's a sensitive side underneath the attitude when she apologised for being unable to stay behind and sign autographs.

"I've got to be in London for 1am but I promise to sign next time I'm here. Please don't put horrible things on Twitter about it - it really upsets me."

Her fans seemed content with that but I reckon there's one problem.. Will there be a next time in Bournemouth? Or will we have to travel to a massive stadium or arena to see her again?

For someone recovering from a cold she really belted those hits out. She doesn't drink or smoke so if you can overlook her occasional bouts of swearing and somewhat obscure dress sense, she makes a great role model. Jessie J sings, writes and produces. As her concert proved, she's a real class act. Our first visit to BIC. Hope she does return, and if she does, we certainly will.
