THE BOURNEMOUTH Symphony Orchestra’s annual Benevolent Concert invariably pulls out all the stops to produce an impressive musical treat, and this year it did so literally, with a performance of Saint-Saens’ Organ Symphony.
The concert, conducted with panache by the BSO’s Young Conductor in Association, Rui Pinheiro, began with a spirited and crisp performance of Dvorak’s lively Carnival Overture.
Internationally acclaimed pianist Peter Jablonski was the soloist in Grieg’s lovely Piano Concerto.
From start to finish, Jablonski’s playing embodied musicianship of the highest order, from the grandeur within the first movement to the serenity of the adagio and the joyful finale.
The orchestra also showed its mettle with some wonderful contributions from the woodwind section.
The BSO was in top form once again, proving that it is a force to be reckoned with on the British music scene, and long may that continue.
