SOME familiar Southampton landmarks will look very different this week.

Southampton Guildhall will provide the canvas for a spectacular celebration of the beauty of light.

As part of the Light UP exhibition at Southampton Solent University’s Showcase gallery, a stunning, free event featuring live light drawing, music and large scale projections will take place on the Guildhall and surrounding buildings on Thursday and Friday.

Artists and musicians performing on the nights will include Phil Durrant, Mattias Fritz, Jonny Hannah, Natalia Kulabuchova, Lathkeykid, Miss Led, Peter Lloyd, Duncan Newland, AJ Myst, Louise Weir, Solent students and exhibition funding partners VIVID*.

On Thursday night, staff and students from the University’s School of Art and Design will be creating a variety of artworks.

Musicians from Soco Music project, renowned musician Phil Durrant and DJ/VJ Natalia Kulabuchova will be creating live music on the night.

Friday’s artists will include local graffiti artists and renowned London-based street artists including Miss Led whose drawings have been used in Lynx adverts and grace Ted Baker’s drawing room. There will also be an opportunity for members of the public try their hand at drawing live on a grand scale and creating their own music on an iPad from 8.30-9pm. The event coincides with an exhibition in Solent Showcase Gallery in the Sir James Matthews Building on the Square.

The exhibition runs until December 8 in partnership with Southampton Solent University, Southampton City Council’s Guildhall Square and Vivid Partnership.

The event will run from 6pm to 9.30pm.
