HE is famous for showing off his six-pack in his music videos and baring his personal life on TV.

But when it came to visiting Southampton as part of his 60 Minute Makeover show, Peter Andre was more on the shy side.

Fans descended on Radstock Road in Woolston to get a glimpse of the celebrity, but he stayed inside a trailer – and when he did finally make a fivesecond appearance, fans were left disappointed as his security team blocked his face with a piece of cardboard.

Scores of people gathered outside the house where the makeover was taking place.

A lucky few managed to get a peek of Mr Andre in the morning – but those who arrived in the afternoon were left waiting.

Lee Cobb, 45, from Sholing, drove his girlfriend Debbie Elsey to see the star.

He said: “I think that he should be coming outside and saying hello to all the fans who have come all the way to see him.”

However, many didn’t mind the wait, including Dee Hawke, 28, a mum of three from Bursledon.

She said: “I have grown up with his music. He is a just a really nice bloke and I think it is great that he is in Southampton.”

A security team made life difficult for anyone wanting to get their own video or photographs of their hero.

At one point a security guard threatened to phone the police if he saw anyone filming.

Even Daily Echo reporters were targeted as the burly security guard shouted: “If anyone is seen speaking to the press they will not be able to their have a photo taken with Peter Andre later – this is on my terms now.”

It was a far cry from his TV show Peter Andre: My Life in which the star gives an insight into every aspect of his day-today adventures.

Later the star emerged from the house for some final filming, but hearts sank when a van and people carrier blocked the entrance.

But he eventually held a 20-minute walkabout, whipping up a frenzy among fans.

He kissed and hugged adoring women, signed autographs and posed for photos before making a hasty escape with fans chasing his vehicle down the street.
