SOUTHAMPTON director Phil Peel has won two awards at the world premiere of a feature film shown around the world.

The feature film, 50 Kisses, was made up of a compilation of short films, each with a Valentine’s Day kiss. Its hugely successful premiere has propelled it into the top 10 of UK box office releases last weekend.

Phil’s film LOVE won two top awards including the Guerilla Film Award and Winning Film Production Award and was described by organiser Chris Jones of the London Screenwriters Festival as “audacious, extraordinary and courageous.”

It has already been screened at New York and Edinburgh Film Festivals.

Phil said it was a wonderful evening, meeting distributors, agents and other filmmakers. An audience of more than 500 had attended from India, Turkey, the USA, Canada, all over Europe and Australia.

He told Your Entertainment: “Now I know what the Bafta winners feel like!”

Phil ran a director’s course for last year’s Southampton Film Week and his next flick will be a feature-length romantic comedy set in the city.
