Quarr Abbey at Ryde, Isle of Wight, is hosting a new summer exhibition that focuses on life living on the island.

The exhibition, which runs until tomorrow, features work by Martin Swan, Sarah Talbot, Sally Woodford and Melanie Swan. Each artist expresses their own, very personal response to living on the Island.

Among Sally Woodford’s work there are ceramic pebbles which encapsulate the beauty of objects usually considered mundane, and which evoke a graceful response to the more sculptural pieces also on show.

Her experiments with combinations of clays and firing techniques, combined with the slow process of hand building, produce unique pieces which retain the maker’s mark.

Martin Swan is showing new landscape paintings, which are always a popular attraction. Together with his acclaimed portrayal of maritime subjects, his work expresses a lifetime’s intimate experience and love of the Island’s scenery.

Some of Quarr Abbey’s most popular characters are included in Sarah Talbot’s work.

Her joyful paintings of the piglets are a delight and bring a playful note to the exhibition which includes her much admired portraits and accomplished landscape paintings.

Melanie Swan is showing a collection of prints including new work which evolved during the hot summer.

The colourful pieces celebrate the intense colours of water and sky and the carnival atmosphere of sun-filled days.

The exhibition is open between 10am and 5pm.
