SALISBURY Playhouse always puts on a cracking good pantomime and this year’s colourful offering was no egg-ception.

In the village of Codswallop Mother Goose is in dire straits – she’s behind on her rent and, after being rejected by Britain's Got Talent, she has no hope of repaying Squire Dillydally the arrears.

To add to her worries airhead son Billy – who’s so daft he thinks they should build a tunnel under Stonehenge – seems to be falling for the squire’s beautiful niece Milly.

Enter good Fairy Flutter to send a magical goose named Priscilla to turn their fortunes around by laying golden rugby balls (oops) I mean eggs.

Could this be the end to all their troubles?

Oh no it certainly isn’t – not when evil Demonica Baddegg (boo-hiss) is around to put a spanner in the works!

And so the audience is taken on a journey from Stonehenge to the South Pole and back again to ensure that good overcomes bad.

With some amazingly camp outfits and hairdos Salisbury’s favourite dame Kieran Buckeridge is hilarious as ever in the title role.

Oh how we laughed at Mother Goose and Squire Dillydally’s (Howard Coggins) interpretation of Torvill and Dean’s Bolero.

Ella Vale is perfectly-cast as the (frightfully posh) malevolent Demonica, who, it turns out, is not all that bad after all and the children loved Johanne Murdock as Bristolian Fairy Flutter.

The six young performers added the ahh-factor, particularly as street-dancing penguins.

Stuffed full of the usual panto silliness, cringeworthy jokes and egg-cellent songs children of all ages will enjoy themselves.

Well done Salisbury Playhouse on a another spectacular performance!

Mother Goose continues at Salisbury Playhouse until Saturday, January 10, 2015.
