FROM bicycle wheels to drums, one enterprising Southampton artist makes art out of anything using glass.

Helen Trimarco-Ransome recreates images using stained glass from photographs – from Harley- Davidsons to yachts and landscapes.

Operating out of her studio in Adelaide Road, St Denys, she exports her work all over the world.

Now some of her creations are briefly on show in the city centre.

One of her latest works, a glass poppy, was made for a customer who was disappointed not to get one from the London display and wanted one for her father in Canada for Remembrance Day.

The 45-year-old’s glass designs are particularly special.

They are mounted on to guitars, drums, bicycle wheels and tables, among other things.

If it can be wired as a lamp, Helen will put glass into it.

Being an avid vintage and recycling fan, she takes items from the past and breathes a new lease of life into them.

Among her commissions are a huge glass coffee cup light and sets of flying dragons.

Helen’s love affair with glass began several years ago, when she bought a large quantity of Chicago art glass in order to expand her antique restoration business, for repairs to antique glass lamps.

She said: “The potential is limitless to what I can add glass to and I am continually on the lookout for items which are a little quirky, that have been discarded from their intended use.

“I love working with handmade art glass because as a raw medium, it is stunningly beautiful in its own right.”

The glass is hand-made and rolled using a mixture of pigments, producing a fine quality of glass, and each piece is unique.

Helen’s work is on show at Tiger Yard in East Street, Southampton, until December 21.
