IT has been two years since we first discovered exactly what’s going on at Hatchet Pond in the New Forest.

The children’s book On The Banks Of Hatchet Pond told the tale of a frog, called Podge, who felt rather sorry for himself but whose courage and quick thinking prevented his friend Dizzy, a dragonfly, from meeting a rather untimely end.

The book, written by Alresford resident Val Anne Lee and illustrated by Dibden Purlieu artist Simon Chadwick, proved itself a hit, so the duo have knuckled down to tell another tale of Podge and Dizzy, this time entitled Podge Goes Splodge At Hatchet Pond.

“Val’s a brilliant storyteller and the rhythm of her rhyming is great fun to read aloud,” said Simon.

“She’s got a great sense of humour that fuels her writing, and whenever she’s quoting a piece of poetry I find myself visualising the accompanying illustration.

“Val wanted to tell a slightly different story with the new book, so this time it’s a cautionary tale about showing off, and with Podge being a frog that means showing off near water. For my part, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed illustrating the dire straits Podge gets himself into.”

It is available now and costs £4.99 from ceratopia.co.uk/shop.

The Daily Echo has five copies of the book to give away. Simply answer the following question: Q: What is the name of Podge’s dragonfly friend?
