A SOUTHAMPTON amateur theatre group has the perfect antidote to the post-Christmas blues as it brings an award-winning comedy to The Nuffield.

Southampton University Players present Alan Ayckbourn’s Absurd Person Singular to fundraise for Sutton Scotney-based children’s hospice Naomi House and Jacksplace.

The production includes three acts, set in three kitchens, which members have been busy building in their garages.

Director Bridget Wilkinson said: “I have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the Southampton public and university staff who have for the past three months been donating and transporting unwanted fridges, kitchen cupboards, washing machines and more across the city, in order to bring this production to the Nuffield stage for the hospice.”

The play looks behind the scenes at parties to observe the ‘ideal hosts’ as they really are – in ridiculous situations and holding on for dear life as fortunes change and relationships strain.

There will also be a cameo radio appearance from The Lounge Kittens.

Absurd Person Singular is at The Nuffield from January 20-24.
