AFTER 14 years of spreading the love of underground music a Southampton venue is closing its doors.

The Cellar, in West Marlands Road, will close on January 10 for refurbishment and rebranding.

It will open in March as the city’s only cabaret bar and restaurant, The Stage Door.

In a statement a spokesperson thanked everyone for their support, and said they are looking forward to what lies ahead.

They said: “One of our proudest achievements was the ability of The Cellar to attract 18-year-olds mixing with over-50s and no-one batted an eyelid, everyone with one united purpose, moving to a real cool beat, along with some of our very good friends and visitors.

“A new era beckons and we are thrilled to be part of The Stage Door. The cultural quarter has flourished around The Cellar and we look forward to continuing to be a part of it. The Stage Door will build on The Cellar’s existing identity and will be Southampton’s first and only Fringe Theatre venue.”

There will be an ‘End of an Era’ party on January 10. Entry is free.
