AN emotionally charged documentary about an ex-Solent graduate’s battle with a brain tumour will be presented on Solent TV tomorrow.

The Cut records the story of Billie-Rae Wilkerson through the unbelievable discovery of her tumour and the thoughts that came after, including her courageous decision to donate her hair to charity.

The moving documentary shows Billie-Rae’s final moments before having her hair entirely shaved off for The Little Princess charity.

She said: “From when I was diagnosed to my actual surgery, I had to mentally and emotionally prepare myself for how much the surgeons would have to shave off – whether it would be a strip, a chunk, half my hair and what I would do after. At the end of the day, it’s nothing and it doesn’t define me as a person. I’m going to take something that has so much negativity for me and I’m going to turn it into a positive and I’m going to donate it to the Little Princess Trust.

“I’m an ordinary, 22-year-old girl and I’m at an age where I understand everything that has happened to me and I can’t even imagine what a little boy or girl will be going through, at such a young age, for them to lose their hair. I have so much angst about losing my hair now, but I like to think I can make someone’s day, life even, and turn it into a positive for someone else.”

The Little Princess Trust, which was launched in 2006, has provided over 2,700 free wigs for children suffering with cancer and other conditions such as alopecia.

Monica Glass, spokeswoman for The Little Princess Trust, said: “What an inspiration Billie-Rae is to us all! She is such a brave person. Despite her own difficulties, she has chosen to support the Little Princess Trust and we are very grateful.

“Billie-Rae’s hair will join other hair donations and be made into a wig either within the UK or Ireland for a child who has lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

“On behalf of all of the children that we help, thank you Billie-Rae for your incredible support!”

The release will be available for the public to watch tomorrow at 6pm on the Solent TV website: www.solenttv.co.uk and Solent TV’s social media channels.
