SOME of the country’s greatest engineering icons will go on display at a Hampshire museum from this week – and they’re all made out of Lego bricks.

Stephenson’s Rocket, the Queen Mary, a Penny Farthing and Concorde are just some of the items on display at Basingstoke’s Milestones Museum from Wednesday.

Thousands of bricks have been used to create the models allowing visitors to marvel at the breadth of development in transport through the ages.

An Egyptian chariot, HMS Victory and the Orient Express also feature in the show which runs until April 26.

Last month a 1.8-metre Flybe plane made out of 20,000 Lego bricks was built in the airport’s passenger terminal.

It took Lego expert Ed Diment and two of his colleagues 60 hours to build.

Artists from Hampshire design firm, Bright Bricks, have created an impressive variety of scale model icons of transport made from Lego bricks.

Visitors can make their own mark by helping to create a six-metre space rocket out of the little bricks and a range of other workshops and activities will take place throughout the exhibition.

Hampshire Cultural Trust’s chief executive Janet Owen said: “It is a great privilege to welcome this popular event back to Milestones Museum for the fourth year running.

“Milestones works closely with Bright Bricks to bring a fresh and exciting modern exhibition to the museum, which in turn introduces visitors to our fascinating social history and transport collections right in the heart of Hampshire.

“There are some great activities planned for Bricks in Motion, so don’t miss this opportunity to visit.”
