AN UP-and-coming comedian who is blazing the trail for older female comics is bringing her solo show to Hampshire next week.

Straight from Dave’s Leicester Comedy Festival and following sold-out shows in Edinburgh and Dublin, Maxine Jones is walking the boards in Winchester on Thursday, February 26.

The 58-year old has come a long way since she started cracking jokes on stage only four years ago after spending a career in journalism in Ireland.

As well as the Railway Inn, she is set appear at theatre’s across the country.

Regarded by some as one of the top ten comedians she still struggles to get noticed.

“My current show is called Invisible Woman. As you get older, as a woman, you definitely become more invisible. When I was flyering the show in Edinburgh, I would focus on older women, saying ‘Do you want to see a show about how older women turn invisible?’”

“One old lady took me literally.

‘Really?’ she said. ‘How?’”

Invisible Woman is at the Railway Inn, doors open at 7.30pm. For tickets and more information visit railwaylive.co.uk, or maxinejonescomedy.com
