IT will be a glitzy red carpet do exclusively screening a feel-good film tipped to be a box-office smash hit.

Hollywood film bosses and celebs have been invited to a special pre-release showing of The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, at the inaugural Rotary Red Carpet Gala Screening on Monday.

Money raised by the event at Southampton University student union will be gifted to Age UK Southampton and Rotary Wessex to take isolated older people to see the film which nationally opens in cinemas on February 26.

TV veteran Esther Rantzen, who is behind older person’s helpline Silverline, will be guest of honour along with representatives from Fox Searchlight Pictures which made the movie.

Set in Jaipur, India, it is about a handful of aged Brits who have chosen to live out their autumn years in a country where pensioners are respected and revered.

Hampshire Olympian Pete Waterfield and serial adventurer James Ketchell are also invited to the black-tie evening, which has been organised by Southampton-based educational charity Damaris.

UK and Ireland Rotary president Eve Conway said: “This is a great way to celebrate Rotary’s 110th Birthday, with the first Rotary Red Carpet Gala Screening in Britain and Ireland and to be making a difference to the lives of isolated elderly people.”
