SHANTY singers from Port Isaac who have delighted visitors and locals for more than 15 years will perform in Basingstoke this week.
The Fisherman’s Friends have almost 300 live performances under their belts and each member is, or has been, a fisherman, lifeboatman or coastguard.
There’s no gang leader or choirmaster and unusually for a singing group, each member will take the lead.
At their regular Port Isaac summer sessions, they stand in a line and each leads a song, from one end of the line and back again.
The group embraces songs and shanties from Cornwall, Liverpool, Ireland, Africa, the West Indies and America.
The Fisherman’s Friends will perform at The Anvil on Friday, March 6, at 7.30pm.
Tickets cost £22.50. To book call the box office on 01256 844244 or go online at anvilarts.org.uk.
