THE mysteries of men, dating, finding Mr Right and motherhood are explored in Sex In Suburbia.

This hilarious new comedy stars Claire Sweeney and visits The Anvil, Basing-stoke tomorrow and is at Poole Lighthouse on Saturday, April 25.

Co-written by former Brookside actress Claire and Mandy Muden the show – advertised on pink posters and sponsored by Adult store Anne Summers, would appear to be aimed at a female audience.

The Stage review said it was “Hitting the comedy G-spot” and women who are brave enough to step on stage and talk about their dating experiences have the chance to win an Anne Summers goody bag!

Its creative team has already made their name with female-inspired shows – the show is directed by Ken Alexander (Hormonal Housewives) and set design is by Mark Walters (Hot Flush).

While being packed with revealing and raunchy storylines it is set to a backdrop of women empowering musical anthems such as I’m Every Woman, I Want To Break Free and Somebody Else’s Guy.

Sex In Suburbia promises to make you laugh, cry and dance in the aisles!

But according to Claire the men love it as much as the women.

Talking to the Daily Echo Claire, 43, said: “Dating is a classless subject everyone can relate to. It’s a girls’ night out but men love it too.

“We tell stories about men but it’s not a man bashing show. Last year in London men were coming along reluctantly with their wives and then coming back with their mates because they had such a laugh.”

Since the London run Claire has become a mother for the first time and it has prompted her to rewrite parts of the original script having a whole new wealth of experiences to draw on.

Her five-month-old baby boy Jaxon is with her on tour. Partner Daniel Reilly is back home in Liverpool. Just a couple of minutes into our phone call she has to stop to “put Jaxon’s hat on” as she doesn’t want him to get cold. We manage to re-connect 20 minutes later.

“We play several characters, including a radio agony aunt. People phone in with their problems and their problems come alive on stage, “ she explains.

Apart from the ‘characters’ Claire portrays she actually plays herself as a guest presenter on the radio and talks honestly about having a little boy, her experiences of motherhood and pregnancy.

Is being a mother everything she had expected?

“It’s better! It’s truly amazing. He’s gorgeous and such a good little boy,” she said.

It was Claire’s idea to get Anne Summers on board because she is a personal friend of Jacqueline Gold, chief executive of the company.

“We are halfway through a UK tour of 69 dates and it’s really hard going.

There’s lots of driving involved and I’ve got my new baby with me, plus my nanny, who is my friend, and my co-star Lindsey travels with us so it’s a bit like girls on tour.

“The reaction has been incredible. Every night we get standing ovations – cheering and clapping.”

So how did her writing of the show come about?

“I was working on the one woman show Tell me on a Sunday about a woman looking for love in all the wrong places and it kind of reflected my life at the time. My producer said to me ‘you should write down your funny stories as they are absolutely hysterical’ and two years later we have a show.

“It’s based on a lot of my stories and those of friends, elaborated to make them more entertaining.”

Claire, who came to prominence on Channel 4 soap Brookside has had other TV roles in Clocking Off, Merseybeat and Candy Cabs. Her West End and touring production credits include Chicago, Guys and Dolls, Educating Rita and September in the Rain.

She has just started presenting a radio show dedicated to the musicals each Sunday on Magic Radio, 3-4pm.
