AMATEUR artists at a Southampton workshop will be exhibiting their work in a printmaking exhibition during May Bank Holiday weekend.

Visitors to the Red Hot Press workshop in The Corn Exchange, Captains Place can see the work of the mature students who have created a range of images during a 30-week course.

The exhibition is on Saturday, Sunday and Monday May 2, 3 and 4 from noon to 5pm.

The only one of its kind in the region, the foundation in printmaking course gives students the opportunity to learn several printmaking techniques such as etching, lino-cutting and screen printing as well as all the basic skills that are needed to become a printmaker.

The ages of the artists range from men and women in their thirties to those in their sixties.

Studio director Sarah Mander said: “This course goes from strength to strength, we are delighted with the work that has been produced on the course.

“Our second cohort of students would be delighted to welcome you to their exhibition.

“As well as seeing the wonderful prints they have produced during the year, you would be able to see the facilities we have here at the workshop and talk to us about the courses we offer.”

This year Red Hot Press are celebrating their tenth year in business.

Set up by Sarah Mander and Katherine Anteney in 2004 Red Hot Press is a print facility that caters for relief and intaglio printmaking techniques plus letterpress, bookbinding and screen printing.

All are welcome from interested beginners to accomplished printmakers to learn and use printmaking as a creative process.
