THE beautiful and heart-wrenching story of Romeo and Juliet is coming to Salisbury Playhouse from Tuesday June 23 – Saturday June 27.

William Shakespeare’s timeless tale of love, passion, violence and rivalry sees theatre company Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory return to the Playhouse after the success of their production of As You Like It last year.

This critically acclaimed production of Romeo and Juliet is directed by Polina Kalinina and includes a young cast of 14 talented actors. “I wanted to approach it as a new play to give it a different energy that is influenced by the 1960’s student riots,” said Polina. “It’s great to have such a dynamic young cast that brings so much new passion to this well-known play.”

Paapa Essiedu plays the role of Romeo. “As a young actor you dream of playing the part of Romeo and it’s incredible that after all those years of reading his speeches I’m having the chance to play the role,” he said. Daisy Whalley plays Juliet, with Oliver Hoare as Mercutio and Sally Oliver as the Nurse.

With dramatic fight scenes, exciting choreography and an innovative revolving set, this production of Romeo and Juliet is packed with drama and suspense. Romeo and Juliet may be fatally entangled in a family feud but this story of love will live on – both on stage and in our hearts.

Romeo and Juliet will be performed at Salisbury Playhouse from Tuesday June 23 to Saturday June 27 at 7.30pm. There are matinees on Thursday and Saturday at 2.15pm.
