This is a tight bright show, mixing quick slick medleys of 1960s pop music with overhead projections of social history from that uniquely creative decade – from mini-skirts to Moon landings.

The Overtures, an excellent five-piece live band – sorry, pop group – open with flawless copies of The Beatles’ She Loves You and The Hollies’ Just One Look.

They continue with the summer sounds of The Beach Boys’ bouncy Surfin’ USA and The Surfaris’ throbbing Wipe Out, to a sunny backdrop of surfing archive footage.

The smooth and historically interesting blending of 60s sights and sounds is perfected with Roy Orbison’s Pretty Woman performed to photos of model Twiggy, actress Diana Rigg from cult TV show The Avengers, and pop singers Cher, Dusty Springfield and Marianne Faithfull.

Stage fireworks are used effectively, especially during The Tornados’ groundbreaking instrumental Telstar, to backdrop adverts for Zoom ice lollies and Ford Cortina cars.

Particularly outstanding is an acoustic version of The Everly Brothers’ Let It Be Me, and in the background are cinema posters for the first (and possibly the best) James Bond movies Dr No, From Russia With Love and Goldfinger.

A beautiful version of The Shadows’ Wonderful Land is nostalgically illustrated by footage of England winning the football World Cup and adverts for the Austin Mini.

An ecstatic standing ovation was followed by the sing-along encore I Wanna Hold Your Hand, Glad All Over and the hooky Daydream Believer.

Groovy baby!
